Quaxo quietly walked into the center of the Junkyard as the moonlight glowed down upon his soft fur. It was the middle of the night so he assumed most of the Jellicles were asleep and it was what he wanted since it was safer that way. See the reason he was out here at this hour was to try to perfect his magic and even though he had done well at the Jellicle Ball as his alter ego Mr. Mistoffelees with bringing back Old Deuteronomy, the fact that it did not work when he summoned it, made him uneasy. In his eyes it was almost dangerous what he did, with his magical bolts so sporadic, he could have hit one of his fellow Jellicles and that's the last he wanted.
Quaxo glanced around the moonlit Junkyard to make sure it was truly empty before choosing his target, the tire. With careful focus he shot off a electric blast that hit cleanly and he smiled satisfied. He then chose his next target, the old car and attempted another but this time even though he felt the charge in his paws but it failed. He frowned as he stared at his paws in disbelief, not understanding why it wasn't working. "Bollocks....I do not understand why this happens."

Demeter never quite understood why other Jellicles assumed she'd be too afraid to walk around the Junkyard at night. The darkness was soothing, and the cool light from the moon cast shadows among the junk that she slid through with ease. Truly, she was more anxious walking through a perfectly-lit Junkyard at midday than she was right now. Besides, she never slept well when Electra was spending the night with a friend. Demeter spent half of her time wandering between the dens, checking on her daughter, reprimanding herself for being so overbearing, walking back to her own den, considering all that could have happened to Electra while she was gone, and walking back to check on her again. In a way, it was therapeutic.
She lifted her face to the sky as a breeze passed by, her eyes closed. It was always nice to be out and about while the other Jellicles were asleep. It had been years since they stopped asking if she was alright every time she saw them, but she was still too often met with pitying glances and sympathetic smiles. Bless their hearts, but she was not emotionally aching every time she left the Junkyard to get food from friendly shopkeepers.
An unfamiliar sound interrupted her thoughts, and she pulled herself into the shadows reflexively before laughing at herself. The Junkyard was safe. She had just been mulling over her emotional stability, and here she was jumping into the shadows at the slightest sound. She drew a breath and ran her paw through her headfur before setting out to investigate. Maybe one of the young ones was trying to sneak out, or one of the adults had taken up a nighttime patrol. Still, she held her breath until she saw the culprit, the small tuxedo tom in the middle of the Yard.
"Quaxo?" She stepped forward carefully, making sure that he was not about to aim anything at her. "What are you doing out so late?"

Quaxo was under the impression that his fellow Jellicle were asleep in their dens so when he heard Demeter's low yet softer voice say his name, he was about to attempt another bolt. At the sound of his name, he immediately stopped the bolt as he frantically turned to see who was there and the electricity singed his paws slightly. He winced in pain but tried to regain some composure as he realized it was Demeter. "Oh Demeter, I do hope I did not wake you. I was only attempting some practice of my magic without the threat of hurting anyone in the process." He explained as he flexed his paws slightly, testing just how much he had hurt them without worrying the older queen. Since Macavity's appearance last night, she had seemed to be even more uneasy then normal and that was saying much. Although Quaxo didn't know the exact details he had understood from what Munkustrap had told him that she had some history with the evil cat.

Demeter smiled apologetically at the startled tom, but her smile dropped when she saw him wince and flex his paws, and she stepped forward to grab them gently. "No, no, I was awake already," she said distractedly, examining his palm. She looked up into his eyes. "I'm so sorry, did you hurt yourself because of me?"
She was still astounded by the abilities he had shown during the Ball, and she had been trying to think of a way to thank him properly ever since. If he had not gotten Deuteronomy back from... In truth, she hadn't allowed herself to think about that part much since that night. Munkustrap had visited her later, briefly, and Bombalurina had stayed with her a while, but she'd been feeling fine. Most of her focus was on making sure Electra was okay. The queenkit had had a front row seat to... what had happened, and while she was a headstrong and courageous kitten, Demeter knew it couldn't have been easy for her to see Munkustrap in a fight like that.

The ginger-and-black tiger tom slunk softly back into the junkyard. Well, he had been trying to slink, at any rate. But between the bulky potato sack he carried - stuffed full with all manner of treats and treasures, though no potatoes - and the dragging shuffle his footpaws were taking on as he grew more exhausted with every step... He could probably be heard a mile away. Mungojerrie sighed, stopping to rest.
"Oi'll wake up the entire yahd at this rate," he muttered. He shouldn't have stayed out so late, and yet... Glancing at his bag of loot, he couldn't completely regret the way he had spent his last several hours.
He was about to continue on toward his den, when his ears pricked up, catching hushed voices nearby. Apparently he was not the only one staying up late. Coming up upon Quaxo and Demeter, he paused a few feet from them. They seemed to be in the middle of a conversation, and he politely waited for a good stopping point before greeting them.

Quaxo felt a awkward blush hit his cheeks as Demeter took his paws, he wasn't at all used to getting attention from the Queens. The kittens preferred to flock around Rum Tum Tugger and the older Queens still saw him as a kitten himself even though he more below Tomhood then anything else. That and he was pretty sure Demeter was Munkustrap's mate, the last he wished for his mentor was to mistrust him with his Queen. "N..No...Well not exactly, when a bolt is charged up and I stop it abruptly, the unreleased bolt has a tendency to singe slightly. It has happened before and it is partially why I choose to practice at this hour." The other part was the fact his magic was still not under his control and he was terrified that he could injure one of the Jellicles he cared for. He believed he was lucky that he didn't hurt anyone at the ball with it behaving so sporadic. As Quaxo stood there awkwardly with Demeter examining his paws, his ears twitched and perked up as he sensed someone else approaching them. He narrowed his eyes as he tried to figure out just who he was sensing, although just like his electric bursts his sensory perception was still needing to be developed further before he could use it at will. He made a mental note to visit Coricopat for perhaps lessons in controlling it better. "It is not polite to hide in shadows, please show yourself." he called out in the opposite direction of where Mungojerrie was.

Another frown darkened her face and she pat his paws consolingly. "I'm so sorry, then. I didn't mean to startle you." She watched his face carefully, realizing that there were two possible other reasons he was practicing in the middle of the night: he was embarrassed, or he was afraid to hurt somebody. She released his paws and cleared her throat. "I should be going, then, I'll let you-"
She sensed another presence as Quaxo's ears perked, and her fur bristled uncomfortably. Almost reflexively, she took a step toward the safety of the shadows, but froze. It couldn't be... He wouldn't dare try again, not so soon. She was being ridiculous. It couldn't be him. Not here... not now... please.

Oh, lovely, now he had frightened them. Jerrie heaved a sigh. He had just wanted to be polite and not interrupt, but instead he had put both the other two Jellicles on edge.
Quickly, so as not to worry them any longer, he stepped from the shadows. "It's only me," he said, making sure to come to where he could be seen clearly, especially for Demeter's sake. To her, he knew, anything frightening or lurking in the shadows was automatically assumed to be... No, he wouldn't even think the name.
Grinning sheepishly at the both of them, Mungojerrie greeted, "Evenin', Quaxo, Demetah. My 'umblest apologies fer...er, lurking. Oi didn't fink any'un would be out at this hour an' was tryin' not t' wake the world." He gave a soft, embarrassed chuckle.

Quaxo gave a sigh of relief when Mungojerrie stepped out from the shadows. He had been afraid it was a Henchcat who had snuck into Jellicle territory to spy on them or worse, Macavity himself to return in revenge for the fight he had retreated from. "Thank Heavenside it is only you, Mungojerrie." Although he couldn't say he was nesscarily friends with either him or his twin, both had taken their times teasing him. He also couldn't say he disliked them either though, since last night Mungojerrie had helped protect the tribe from Macavity or at least that's what Alonzo has told him. "I think it is safe to assume why you are awake at this hour, is it not?" Quaxo asked as he eyed the potato sack he carried, pretty sure it was not filled with potatoes.

The blood started flowing again through Demeter's body and she quickly rubbed at her face with her paw, allowing a self-deprecating chuckle to escape. Of course, any creeping through the Junkyard at night was bound to be one of the trouble-making siblings. She stepped back to where she'd been standing and eyes the bag Mungojerrie was holding.
"Getting into trouble, I'd say." She placed her paws on her hips and shot a gently admonishing smile at Jerrie. "So, what's in the bag?"
She couldn't say that she mistrusted Mungojerrie or his sister, or even that she disliked them. She remembered when they'd came to the Junkyard, and how astonishingly open they had been about their time in Macavity's service, but Demeter still found that she could never rest easy around them. Some subconscious self-preservation instinct, she supposed. She tried very hard not to let it show. The two had been nothing but helpful with the Tribe since they'd joined.

the lovely brown queen glided through the shadows, winding her way past the junk stacks from her favored sheltered entrance. Cassandra had intended to recall the Ball by the moonlight while lounging on the TSE-01 when she found an unexpected gathering in her route. lithely she stepped from the shadows and regally inclined her head, "a good evening to all, I do hope that there is not trouble so soon?" she said in a smooth velvety voice her pale green eyes catching the moonlight.

Mungojerrie's smile broadened as the two spoke. Truthfully, he was happy to see them both doing so well: Quaxo after what must have been an exhausting time of performing his magic as Mr. Mistoffelees, finally culminating in the amazing feat of bringing Old Deuteronomy back; and Demeter after nearly being carried off by Macavity. He felt a slight twinge of guilt at the thought. He knew he wasn't to blame for the Hidden Paw's actions, but the fact that he had ever even remotely assisted the evil tom still haunted him. And, though Jerrie had helped the other toms run Macavity off at last, he couldn't help wondering why he hadn't entered the fight sooner and saved Munkustrap some of the injuries he had sustained.
Shaking away these unpleasant thoughts, he turned his attention back on Quaxo and Demeter, who clearly knew what he'd been up to. It probably seemed odd that he had gone out thieving right after all that had happened, but robbing humans was something he was good at and could control, which had helped him ease the tensions he felt after the Macavity run-in.
"Hmm... Wot've I got in the bag...wouldn't ya like to know?" he laughed. He reached for the sack and was just about to open it, when Cassandra arrived.
His ears flattened slightly; this queen was so elegant and proper that she rather unnerved him at times - as if he might accidentally do or say something socially unacceptable and get scolded for it. "Evening, Cassandra," he greeted politely. "No, no trouble's far as I know..." He looked toward Quaxo and Demeter for confirmation.

Although Quaxo wasn't one to steal himself or neither did he condone it, he couldn't help being curious of what was in Mungojerrie's bag. Delicious food like mutton? Or maybe some records that played some Bach? Both of those options would make the theft worth it but he would never admit that to the thieving cat. Just as Quaxo stepped closer to look, Cassie appeared. "There has been no trouble tonight and I do hope that continues. Last night was a nightmare I do not wish to relive." He said looking gently at the Queen. She had been so helpful in returning Old Deuteronomy and he was so apprecitive.

Demeter kept her hazel eyes trained on the bag, ready to admonish the tiger-striped tom for whatever he'd stolen, when another slid out of the shadows. Her fur prickled momentarily, but her face was a mask of pleasantries and comfort. She waited until Mungojerrie greeted the cat to look up. Cassandra, it was just Cassandra. That was okay, then.
"Hello, Cassandra," she said quietly with an gentle nod of her head. She thought Cassandra was a lovely queen, in all honesty. Sometimes it was a breath of fresh air to socialize with a Jellicle so concerned with airs and graces, though she loved the others as well.

the lovely brown queen gave a small serene smile "I am gladdened to see that all is well, and I do not think that last night was entirely a nightmare. I have not had the chance to thank you Quaxo for honoring me the way you did, or rather the way Mr Mistoffolees did." she returned Demeter's nod "It is nice to see you about Demeter, and Mungo Jerrie..." she said turning to the tiger tom as Cassandra's delicately cupped ears twitched and an elegant eyebrow arched, "I do hope that there is nothing in that bag that will anger the humans too greatly." then she stretched and with a twitch of her tail groomed off a dust mote that had dared to land on her arm.
