Cat’s Name: August
Loyalty: Jellicles
Age: Early to mid twenties.
Family: Karm – Father
Saba – Mother
Cayran – older sister
Zinnober – older brother
(multiple cousins)
Appearance: For a tom, August is undeniably beautiful. He is fair in appearance, and while he has muscle, his figure is categorized as “willowy”. His base coat is a light cream, and being half Somali, his fur is longer around his shoulders and his tail is full and fluffy. An odd collection of orange markings surround his eyes, and a few streaks of orange can be found in his head fur and tail. Lastly, with regard to markings, August has a handful of orange yellow spots or “rosettes” that adorn his lower back and rear end.
August is of normal height for a tom, standing right at 6 feet. As stated above, August is a lean tom. He does have muscle; however his muscle is primarily noticeable in his arms and chest. His thinness is attributed simply by his build, and he is in no way, shape or form thin enough to be considered unhealthy. His face is angular with wide eyes and prominent eyebrows. His lips are full, and his cheekbones are defined.
Despite having red eyes (a trait passed down from his Somali heritage), August is blind. Due to his longer fur, his mother went through the process of dreading August’s head fur so that he wouldn’t have to bother with it everyday. As the years have passed, August’s dreads have grown longer – some reaching passed the middle of his back. Most days he’ll push the dreads out of his face with the red bang, while others he’ll pull his dreads back in a messy ponytail.

Personality: While most would be disheartened by a disability such as blindness, August is anything but. In fact, August is a very kind and optimistic tom. He smiles far more than he frowns, and has a very welcoming persona. August was born blind, and so he is lived with his disability for the entirety of his life, making it a normality for him. For that reason, he does not appreciate pity, and August knows when you pity him. Because he is blind, his other senses are heightened. His can detect the mood of another by simply listening to them talk. In addition, he can pick up on scents that most have gone nose blind to. While he does use his hands to get a more detailed “image”, August has the ability to see outlines of objects, plants, buildings and other creatures via sound. His ears act as a sonar, and while images are blurred and void of any real color, he can use this ability to get around with ease. August often snaps his fingers if there isn’t substantial sound in the area in order to make the unseen somewhat visible.
With regard to his heightened senses, August is very sensitive to changes in weather and in the atmosphere. He knows when a storm is coming (both physically and metaphorically) whether by a sudden rise in humidity, or an over all uneasy feeling. He can feel the electricity in the air hours before lightening strikes, and August somehow seems to know when trouble is afoot. He cannot explain why he knows, or how he comes to his conclusions – it is just a feeling he gets, and he has learned to trust those feelings.
As stated above, August is a kind soul. He is extremely good with kittens and those younger than he, and intently listens to those who have lived longer and experienced more than he has. He is very intuitive and bright, and can carry on a conversation with nearly anyone. If he is unwanted, or if a conversation is not meant for him to indulge in, August is the type to simply smile, apologize, and go about his way. While such things do often cause offense, August isn’t the sort to remain upset for long, nor does he make it a habit to hold grudges. He is learned through the life he has been dealt that uncertainty and mistrust are issues he is going to have to deal with on a regular basis. People are afraid of the unknown, and those in whom they cannot relate to. Blindness is hardly relatable. Others don’t understand that he can hear the whispers of uncertainty, and he can tell by their tones that what they say (although not entirely unkind), is often said in a way that picks at his character. Nevertheless, August takes everything with a grain of salt and tends to overlook most negative comments.
August is very contemplative. While he can’t see to read, he listens and remains attentive to his surroundings, and he is able to maintain most of the information he hears. Often, August will sit, eyes to the ground, just thinking. Usually, when he does this, he is trying to wrap his head around a particular fact or rumor going on in the area. He is very inquisitive, and if you do engage him in conversation, August wants details. He wants to be able to create a picture in his head and the more details, the better.
History: August is the youngest born son of a full blooded Somali tom named Karm, and a primarily cream based queen named Saba. He and his siblings, while all different in appearance, have their mother’s creamy coat and their father’s baring. As an infant, August’s blindness went unnoticed for a period of time. Most kittens don’t open their eyes until a few weeks after their birth, and once his opened, August’s eyes were a deep shade of red – a color he inherited from his father. It wasn’t until August turned a year old that his parents finally realized that their son couldn’t see them.
Worried for their youngest, Karm and Saba took August to multiple healers, hoping for an answer or therapy that would remedy their son’s situation. Each healer told them the same thing. August was blind due to a slight genetic mutation, and that there was nothing they could do to reverse the outcome.
Naturally, his parents were disheartened at the news. For a few months they did little to help August adjust to a life without sight, and during that period his elder brother, Zinnober, made it his responsibility to try and teach August. Cayran, the eldest of the three siblings did what she could to assist, but it was Zin that developed an early bond with August and insisted that he was his responsibility.
After a period of time, Karm and Saba began to realize that whatever it was that Zin was doing was not only helping August get around without bumping into walls, but also speak properly. They would watch as August would touch his brother’s mouth, feeling his lips as Zin sounded out a word. While August could undoubtedly hear what his brother was saying, the physical contact helped him understand how certain syllables and vows moved the mouth, and made it easier to memorize them. With their hope restored, August’s parents found an interest in assisting in August’s lessons, and finally began to develop a bond with the kitten they original found so little hope in.
At the age of five, August began function and running around like any other kitten his age. He was a hyper little thing with no attention span and the ability to run around for hours. He would hardly give his mother the time to groom him, especially if it was sunny and warm outdoors. Saba found it hard to keep his long head fur tamed due to the fact that the kit wouldn’t sit still, and for that reason Saba researched possibilities to make grooming him less of a hassle for herself, and for himself in the future. It was then she discovered dreadlocks. It was the style she had in mind for August, but it seemed to be the most reasonable solution, and they would last him until he ever decided to get rid of them.
While his sensitivity to sound and surroundings began to blossom at a young age, August became fully aware of his abilities at the age of 13. In a routine checkup with the neighborhood healer, August asked her if what he was experiencing was normal, and whiled heightened sensitivity was not unheard of, what he was experiencing was rare, and what she considered to be a gift. Realizing he could use said gift to his advantage and further develop it to his benefit, August experimented with sounds and touch. It is that reason that he gets around with ease today, and most are unaware that he is blind.
August became affiliated with the Jellicles shortly after he turned 17. Being particularly close to Zinnober, it nearly broke his heart when his brother left home. After getting into a rather large fight with his mother and father about the rift raft he had been hanging out with, Zin stormed out and did not come back. August had hoped he’d return, but after a month of not hearing from him, August felt abandoned by his brother. Despite his parent’s pleas for him to stay (both his sister and Zin had left at this point), August expressed his desire to try living on his own. It was his way of starting over, and if anything, he needed a fresh start. After hearing positive words regarding the Jellicles on the streets, August sought them out and was soon accepted by Old Deuteronomy.
He remains in close contact with his parents and sister; however, August has made the junkyard his permanent residence and does not plan on leaving the yard’ anytime soon. He still hopes to find his brother, but he takes his pursuit one day at a time, know that eventually they will reunite.
Desired Pairing(s): I like for relationships to develop without having anything pre-set. August is open for pairings – both tom and queen.
Roleplaying Sample: (from an old story of when he was younger).
Spring was the epitome of rebirth. The scent of freshly bloomed morning glories wafted through the air, as the rising sun reflected off the morning dew. Baby birds began to hatch and the loud whistles and chirping of their mothers sounded through the country side. It was quite a glorious sound, and did an astounding job at waking all living creatures, whether they protested the morning or not.
August didn’t protest it. He had never protested the morning. As a matter of fact, the cream based tom welcomed it. Yawning and stretching, August felt his spine adjust and crack. Turning to his right, he brought a hand up in order to prop up his head with while the other reached out in front of him, “looking” for another. His fingers lightly grazed across the curve of a back, and as his fingers moved upwards, they intertwined with a thick mess of curls. Smiling, the blind kit scooted closer and gently shook his sister’s shoulder.
“Cay…Cayran. It’s morning.” Moaning in protest, the busty belle swatted August’s hand away and twisted her body to face him. One eye opened and her lips curved into a sleepy pout.
“Awe Augie darling, morning or not, you know I’m not about at wake up THIS early.”
“ Yea, but you know what they say, the early bird gets the worm.”
“That only applies to fishing Augie, and by the way, what’s up with all of this proper talking, hmm? I believe you’ve been hanging around Moora to much.”
“Well, Moora is nice to me.” August plainly stated, sitting up and drawing his knees towards his chest. “I don’t believe one word those queens say about her.” Sighing, Cayran sat up as well and twisted a finger idly around one of August’s dreads.
“Well, you’re still young Augie. I think Moora is a mighty fine lady m’self; however, I wouldn’t be surprised if what some of the things those queens say about her are true.”
Shrugging his shoulders, August’s brow creased. “Yea, well I don’t care. Why they talk bad about her anyway I don’t know.”
“Jealousy dear brother, jealousy,” Cayran stated matter - o - factly. “None the less, you shouldn’t be worrying your pretty little self so early in the morning. Come now, since you woke me up so gosh darn early, we might as well go find ma’ and pa’ and get some breakfast,” she cooed, jerking him up and onto his feet.
August seemed to perk up slightly at the mention of food, and a smile replaced the frown that had recently occupied his face. Lacing his fingers around his sister’s, he allowed her to lead him out into the bright sunlight, instantly comforted by the sudden rush of warmth.
How often can you be on?: Every day or every other day. If there is an issue, I’d let you know.
Password: Rice pudding and mutton
Comments: As stated in his profile, he has sonar like ears that allow him to see outlines of figures through the use of sound. It helps him get around with ease (think Daredevil). In addition, while I wouldn’t consider August a true mystic, he has the ability to sense changes in weather and in atmosphere. He can sense with something bad is brewing, and often gets uneasy or ill shortly before something goes wrong.
