The coolness of the Pipe was soothing to Tantomile's tired eyes. Sunlight streamed through a crack above her head, illuminating the supplies laid out in front of her. Various foods, herbs, metals, resting in a neat semi-circle around her criss-crossed legs. There had to be something, some sort of trigger, a secret she had yet to unlock. She didn't know very much about mystic powers, especially not her own, but it did not make sense to her that her power would be completely uncontrollable. "Everlasting, help me," she muttered under her breath. She reached for the bit of catnip hesitantly, but pulled her paw away and grabbed the bay leaf instead, putting it in her mouth with care.
The flavor was dull, somewhat warm and meaty, but very subdued. And it did not feel like anything. She spit it out into her paw and tossed it behind her with a sigh. She wasn't sure what it would feel like if she were ever able to figure it out. What is it you want me to do? She tilted her head back in frustration. Why give her these powers and not give her a way to access them or control them? No. No, she had no time to pity herself. She focused once more on the items in front of her, and eventually decided on the white twig, speckled with black. A gasp escaped her lips as soon as she touched it. She twirled it through her fingers, chewed at it, rubbed it on her arms. It was so light. She felt so light. The migraine she hadn't even known she'd had was lifted. Was this it? It felt too simple, but... she'd never felt like this before.
She dropped it experimentally, and the weight of the world returned. She hadn't seen anything. If that had been it, why hadn't she seen anything, gained any new knowledge? She tapped it cautiously. It definitely had an effect on her. Still, she felt no closer to an answer. She pushed the twig aside with her claw and reached for the tarnished silver ring.
