Cat’s Name: Tumblebrutus
Loyalty: Jellicle
Age: 18
Family: Parents: Unknown; Brother: Pouncival
Appearance:
Personality:
Self-conscious/Timid: Though he rarely admits this even to himself, Tumblebrutus is quite a nervous tom when it comes to interacting with others. He cares a good deal about what others think of him, and consistently worries that something he says or does will make someone dislike him. He is not very good at everyday things such as making conversation. He would sooner run off and fight a dragon with someone than try to talk about the weather with them.
Overbearing: Tumble hates his shyness and is constantly pushing against it. He forces himself to act more outgoing, which often means he just ends up acting loud and silly, or showing off. His showing off generally manifests itself in performing crazy acrobatic feats and telling stories (made up out of his own head) about his past life, which was supposedly so full of adventure and excitement.
Emulative: Tumble feels that, on the whole, he is a rather boring person. Because of this, he tends to "hero-worship" cats he admires and tries to learn their best qualities so he can take on those qualities himself. He most aspires to be a great protector like Munkustrap, and a queen-magnet like the Rum Tum Tugger.
Eager-to-Please: He wants to make everyone happy. His reasons for this vary, but the two main ones are that he hates conflict and that he wants others to like him.
Restless: He has a curious and adventurous side to him that has not had much chance for action. Though grateful enough for the good home he has with the Jellicles, Tumble has often felt bored with his uneventful life. In fact, rather guiltily, he couldn't help being somewhat thrilled by the Macavity attacks at the most recent Ball--because at least "something exciting" was happening. He has thought several times about running away--not permanently, just for an adventure farther away than the city. As a kitten, he was warned constantly not to stray too far, and obeyed because that was what he had always been used to. However, now that he can more or less do as he wants, the idea is growing more and more tempting to have some adventure--stow away on a boat, perhaps.
Background:
Tumble doesn't remember his parents. The Jellicles found him as a kitten, abandoned near the boat docks. He was too little to say much, but he could tell them his name was Tumblebrutus. He has lived the majority of his life in the junkyard. He only has a handful of memories from the time before he was found, and even those are too blurred and confused to be of much use. However, because he was found by the docks, he is fully convinced that he must have sailed on boats at one time. The rest, he supplies from his own imagination. He is fond of inventing various possible pasts for himself, and will gladly tell others the exciting stories of his life - especially if there are queens around to impress.
His favorite imaginary (or real, for all he or anyone really knows) "pre-junkyard" life to talk about is one in which he is the son of Tumblebrutus, bo'sun to the legendary Growltiger. (How else could he have got his name, after all?). As Tumble tells it, he was born on a barge and sailed for the first few weeks of his life. However, the barge sprang a leak, and everyone had to take to the water. Somehow, tiny kitten that he was, Tumble managed to survive. He often repeats this story, with different embellishments each time, to anyone who will listen.
Apart from his uncertain beginnings and mysterious past, the rest of Tumble's life has been quite ordinary. His kittenhood in the junkyard was a happy enough one, and so far as he can see, adulthood doesn't seem to be bringing anything very interesting or surprising with it. The most "exciting" thing that has happened to him during his life among the Jellicles is his being adopted by a human family. The first occurred when he was still a kitten: he wandered away from the junkyard one day to explore, on a dare from a fellow kit. He ended up near a human residence, where a human child was outside playing. Before Tumble knew what was happening, the child had scooped him up and run inside begging, "Can I keep him?" The situation terrified Tumble at first, but when he got used to the strange feel of a collar and discovered the joys of free food and a kitty door that allowed him to come and go at will, he found he did not mind in the least. Now he shares time between the junkyard and his humans' house, though he generally returns there only often enough to let his humans know he isn't lost.
Pairing would like: Tumble/Teazer could be fun...but whatever happens happens. We'll see where things lead.
Roleplaying Sample:
The lean, patched tom grinned to himself with a satisfied nodd. He stood to his feet and dusted off his paws, having just perfected his newest feat: a one-handed handstand. Guaranteed to be a marvel to all who beheld it. If anyone could stop fussing over Quaxo-stoffelees' magic powers or ogling over Tugger long enough to watch. Tumblebrutus shrugged his shoulders, his grin fading, and turned in the direction of the sun, which was just rising. "What could be out there," he murmured under his breath. Perhaps this would be the year. Maybe he ought to forget about the Ball--how likely was he to have a dancing partner, anyway?--and run off and take a voyage of several weeks or months. Who knew but what the famous Growltiger might still be at large--if he really existed, that is--and Tumble could join his crew. He might even find his father. But what would he even say to convince the crew to accept him? "Hello, there, I've come seeking adventure and to see if I'm really the son of your boatswain, but I'm willing to take up piracy if you insist--on a temporary basis, of course." Tumble laughed at the thought, and at how he would appease Jennyanydots and Jellylorum upon his return: "But, it was all an act. I'm no pirate, I'm a perfect angel, honest!"
He shook his head ruefully. He'd have to come up with a better plan than that before going anywhere. Meanwhile... He grimaced slightly as he heard the sounds of other Jellicles waking up and starting out their days. I've got much more difficult matters to deal with here. Nothing is so exhausting as everyday life.
