Mercedes needed a break - a real break. Not one of those “take ten and see you in a few” sort of breaks, but a whole afternoon of freedom. Hell, she’d take a whole day - a whole week of freedom if she could! But no, she had responsibilities. She had a warehouse full of rugged toms and queens that needed her to bandage a boo-boo every friggin’ day, and while she loved her art, she wished some weren’t so reckless. Lord…you’d think half of them were still kittens the way they came to her with all matters of injuries.
With an over exaggerated sigh, the silver and orange colored queen plopped down against a crate ungracefully. Her left arm and leg dangled over the edge of the box as her honey gold eyes watched the ceiling with little interest. She had considered retiring to her den for the evening, but she wasn’t quite ready. Much like the infirmary, her den was covered with bottles and herbs, and smelled much like the disinfectant. One would assume that Sadie had gone nose blind to such smells, but what made her such a good healer was the simple fact that she hadn’t. She could name any herb or medicine simply by its scent- she knew because she quizzed herself.
At any rate, she didn’t want to be around that smell. She needed to cleanse her senses and breath in some air - fresh air to be exact. She needed to wander outside, but currently didn’t have the gumption to head outside. At least it was quiet where she was, and somewhat dark. Usually it wasn’t, and she didn’t figure it to remain that way for very long. Until then though, she’d bask in the silence and mottled air, enjoy what solitude she could get.

as Mercedes lay on the crate one of the shadows nearby moved, resovleing it's self into the soft brown-grey grey-brown form of an old queen as she slowly walked out of them. Bathsheba turned her head up to the younger queen the light catching in her cataract shrouded eyes. "a peaceful spot is it not?" she said in an age smoked rasp.

Sadie had nearly let her mind slip into oblivion as her body relaxed against the hard surface of the crate. She was a queen that could sleep about anywhere, and once she had grown comfortable, the silver and orange queen had undoubtably let her guard down. The presence of another startled her out of her relaxation, and Sadie sat up on her elbows, starring down at the old queen.
Bathsheba…
Of course she knew her, how could she not? Her and her bag of tricks. Mercedes had never been one to believe in the supernatural, or any claims to powers affiliated with it, but she was somewhat superstitious - enough so to not dismiss it completely.
”It is,” Mercedes replied, her voice quiet as she watched the older queen. ”What are you doing out and about at this hour? Don't you need your rest, Sheba?”

the old queen chuckled "you are one to talk Missy, you sound the way I probably look! when was the last time you got some rest Sweets?" she said. Bathsheba leaned against and sighed shaking her head. when she turned her face in Mercedes direction it was lined with worry, "oh and I heard something that you should know about, there has been an outbreak of The Wasting (Feline Leukemia) in Hamersmith. I have already advised the Boss that he should avoid business there for at least a month. I have the feeling he might be arranging for a bit of arson to be sure. but I thought you should be on the look out for any symptoms among the Lunkheads hey?"

Sadie blinked, running a hand through her head fur with a sigh. ”It has just been a long day, is all.” She hadn’t had any sick or injured visiting her today, but Sadie had taken the time to restock on her supplies and mix up elixirs used as antibiotics. Sometimes such work was just as draining as dealing with patients. It was definitely far more tedious.
The silver queen had not heard about the outbreak, but she was thankful to receive a heads up about it. ”Well in that case, I hope Macavity bans visits to that area for a month or two. If not, my professional opinion is that visits be limited. If someone catches it, they will have to be quarantined. There is little any healer can do for that disease except give an antidote and hope for the best.”
The other option would be to somehow collect a strand of the disease and try to create a dead strand that would help prevent catching the disease. It was a risky business, but it was a possibility.

thw old queen gave a cynical chuckle, "over the next few days I am going to be giving 'readings' to some of the rank and file Henches about steering clear." Bathsheba said, then she licked a paw and ran it over sagging gray brown fur. "the good news is that I have not had any legitimate readings yet that involve the outbreak so I hope that means we are in the clear, however it is far too dangerous not to take a few precautions!"

"Oh, definitely," Sadie agreed with a sharp nod of her head. The young healer rotated her body so that her legs dangled off of the crate as she looked down at the other queen.
"Would you like to come up here? I don't mind helping you up..." Mercedes wasn't that strong of a queen, but Bathsheba didn't look to be too heavy. Sadie definitely figured she could manage it. She had enough experience holding down brawny toms as the wreathed on her table while she stitched up a gash or healed a burn. Surely she could hoist the older queen up.
"What sort of readings do most of the rank ask for, if you don't mind me asking?" Sadie was genuinely curious. They hardly seemed interested in anything other than blood baths.

the old queen smiled, "thank you." she said and with Mercedes help clambered up beside her showing some of the grace that she had once had. Bathsheba curled up with a sigh. "well mostly it's Am I going to be successful on this Mission, am I going to get this Queen or that Tom, is my Luck going to hold?" she gave a snort. "superstitious and cowardly lot, always needing someone to hold their paw even if they can't admit it, not that I have to tell you that! oohh oohh I have a splinter. good thing for Me too, keeps Me in Kibble don't you know." she said as she gave her tail a flick.

Sadie smirked, reaching over to take Bathsheba's paw. She flipped her hand over and gently worked to remove the splinter. It most definitely wasn't her first.
"I find it amusing that they actually care about such things. They just appear to be big bullies with nothing but meat in their head. To think they care about relationships...ugh." She rolled her eyes at the thought. She herself had a very negative outlook on love and relationships, and she considered anyone who spent too much of their time worrying about it stupid.
"Just toy with their minds and tell them they are all going to be lonely fools. They are nasty too...what queen would want to lie with them anyway?"

the old queen snickered, "oh I do I do! but I give them just enough to keep coming back with things to trade don't you know." then she tilted her head and cocked an ear as Mercedes ministered her paw. "well thats worrisome...I was making fun of those whining ninnys that bother you over the littlest thing, I didn't even notice that I had a splinter!" Bathsheba said her tail lashing. "losing feeling in my paws would be bad...very bad."

Sadie smirked. Once she had removed the splinter from Bathsheba's hand, she let go and rested her own hands in her lap.
"Do you mind if I ask you a question? Please don't take offense," Mercedes glanced at the elder out of the corner of her eyes. "How much of the stuff you tell them is true? Or is it all bullshit..." Being somewhat of a skeptic herself, Sadie didn't know if she believed a mystic's premonitions. There was so much that happened every day, week and month...how could Bathsheba or any mystic for that matter be completely right? Sure, some things could come true, but how much of that was actually foretold, or a lucky guess?
"I'm not sure if I believe in it, thats all."

the old queen laughed, "oh no offense taken dearie! oh it is quite real, and when they come it can be very accurate. but, and it is a big one, the premonitions ONLY come when there is a message, they don't come every time I lay a pattern of cards or toss the bones. but that's not exactly good for business hmmm? so I give them what they want, and sometimes what they need to hear." Bathesheba said then she shrugged. "it's a living."

Mercedes nodded, eyes squinting in thought. ”So, do you ever get premonitions about someone without them contacting you first?” She had no idea how the mystic stuff worked. It was all a mystery to her. ”Like…were you born with this gift, or was it something acquired? I’m sorry, I just have a hard time wrapping my mind around it.”
While healing came naturally to her, it was an art she had to learn, and it wasn’t something she had been born with. She just didn’t know if mysticism was the same or not. ”How did you come to work here?”
Sadie was full of questions, but she was genuinely curious. She had never sat down and had a conversation with the elder queen before, so she knew very little about her.
