Keiiji stared intently at his mug. It didn't surprise him that Stubby would bring up the issue of Macavity and his gang. Though Stubby had to know that Keiiji had dealings with some of Macavity's hench cats, and on the rare occasion, Macavity himself. Though Keiiji would only admit to Stubby, to dealing with the ginger tom once; even if it was more then that. Keiiji gave another shrug of his shoulders. "The ball..." He glanced up at Stubinz. "I was on Skimbleshanks train for three days, delivering a shipment of 'supplies'. The details are inconsequential. However, I haven't been to the junkyard since I've been back. Was the ball interrupted?" Keiiji had ignored for now, Stubby's offer of the coal chute.

the battered old tom took another pull of buttermilk and nodded, making no mention that Skimble had made this Ball... "Ah twas'nt there fer that part, Ah was seein Gus home, but but fer reasons of his own tha Hidden Paw saw fit ta snatch Old D, an after 'return' him only ta be exposed by sweet Demeter that it was tha ginger blighter in disguse! well he tried ta carry off Miss Deme, na that Ah fault his taste there mind, but he got stopped by Munkustrap an Alonzo. tha Boyscout he took tha worst of it, an Alozo got a bit of a drubbing as well. an ol Mackie....well ol Mackie did what he does an escaped. used a live car battery ta create a diverson he did," then Stubinz leaned forward to continue. "now tha Tribe was all a flutter, an Ah'll tell ya by accounts Munky Boy twas given no direction, till of all people Tha Rum Tum Bugger comes up with a suggestion sayin that they should try little Quaxo's bloody Magic. a good thing twas Tha Jeliclle Moon say Ah! tha little feller bloody well pulled it off an magiced him back thare an well they went back ta singing an dancin as that lot does when they celebrate." then the old tom leaned back, "well Ah'm fer e refill twould ya like me ta freshin that?"

"Sounds like I missed a hell of a party." Keiiji spoke without revealing if he was for the actions of the hidden paw, or appalled by them. He stared at the remainder of his mug, watching the liquid as he thought deeply. "Can't say I'm surprised Rum Tum Tugger was the one to rouse everyone else and come up with a solution." He finished the last of his drink and closed his eyes, savoring the last of the taste. "Mmm?" Keiiji asked silently, before opening his eyes. "You'll be getting guests soon, so I'll pass on a refill." However, he didn't move to leave. Keiiji was comfortable where he sat, and still wanted to catch up, as most as Keiiji would allow of course. He threaded his fingers together, and his tail curled slightly. "What did you do during the ball?"

the battered old tom laughed "an what else my fine lad? Ah was watchin tha fair cailĂns!" Stubinz said then he lifted his right rear paw and waggeled the two remaining toes, "Ah donn dance quite as well as Ah did in ma youth ey? but Ah will say that these old eyes work just fine an tha tribe has more than it's share of maids worth watching, that is ta be sure! now tis a shame that a strapping lad like yerself did not make it, ya could have done right well fer yerself during that mating dance ah'd have reckoned!" he added with a chuckle. then the batered old toms eyes took on a mischevious twinkle "the music was fine ta hear, even if Ah did na get ta add me fiddlin. now there is a thought would ya like ta hear some?"

Keiiji almost had the urge to curl his lips up into a smirk, but the corner of his left eye twitch ever so slightly and his straight face was unmoved. "Haven't changed a bit, have you Stu'? Has no queens caught your fancy yet?" He did let his shoulders sag back and he relaxed further into his chair. "I agree that their are attractive jellicles." He did sigh quietly at Stubinz statement. However, Keiiji didn't think he would have been a good hit with the jellicles, and certainly not during the mating dance. Most still kept their distance from him. "Show me a tom or queen who finds scars sexy." Keiiji didn't really think Stubinz would try to set him up, he never has in the past. Besides, it was more then just his scars. Most cats were put off by his lack. He did nod his head though and gestured for Stubinz. "I enjoy your music, please. Have you learned any new songs?"

the battered old tom chuckled again as he fetched his fiddle from behind the bar, "oh there haie been many that have caught me eye but ta most of them Ah am far too close ta being Gran Da hmmm?" he said as he limped back and set himself on his seat and rosined up his bow, then he drew it across the strings with a raspy screech that began a tune and after a few bars he started to sing as well... "As I walked by the dockside one evening so rare To view the still waters and take the salt air I heard an old fisherman singing this song, Oh take me away boys, me time is not long
wrap me up in me oilskins and jumper No more on the docks I'll be seen Just tell me old shipmates I'm takin a trip mates I'll see you someday in Fiddler's Green
Oh in Fiddler's Green is a place I've heard tell Where sailormen go if they don't go to hell Where the weather is fair and the dolphins do play And the cold coast of Greenland is far far away
wrap me up in me oilskins and jumper No more on the docks I'll be seen Just tell me old shipmates I'm takin a trip mates I'll see you someday in Fiddler's Green
Where the skies are all clear and there's never a gale And the fish jump on board with a swish of their tails Where you lie at your leisure - there's no work to do And the skipper's below making tea for the crew
wrap me up in me oilskins and jumper No more on the docks I'll be seen Just tell me old shipmates I'm takin a trip mates I'll see you someday in Fiddler's Green
Oh and when you are docked and the long trip is through There's pubs and there's clubs and there's lassies there too Where the girls are all pretty and the beer is all free And there's bottles of rum growin off every tree
wrap me up in me oilskins and jumper No more on the docks I'll be seen Just tell me old shipmates I'm takin a trip mates I'll see you someday in Fiddler's Green
Oh I don't want a harp nor a halo, not me Just give me a breeze and a good rollin sea And I'll play me auld squeezebox as we sail along With the wind in the riggin to sing me this song
wrap me up in me oilskins and jumper No more on the docks I'll be seen Just tell me old shipmates I'm takin a trip mates I'll see you someday in Fiddler's Green
wrap me up in me oilskins and jumper No more on the docks I'll be seen Just tell me old shipmates I'm takin a trip mates I'll see you someday in Fiddler's Green...." then he let the music fade to a soft melancholy echo.

The burnt orange tabby's lips drew into a tight line as he listened to the closest thing he had to a friend berate himself. Though he had heard worse. He was constantly referred to as a robot. Stubby may have been older, but he had experience, and he was still attractive enough to capture the heart of a queen. Keiiji knew his luck wouldn't be good. He'd probably be able to find a few queens, maybe a tom or two that would deal with him for a month or so, but a long term mate was out of the question. He leaned back as Stubby picked up his fiddle and the first chords pulled Keiiji in. He let his mind drift away from other thoughts, and let the music take him to another place. He wasn't lying, he did enjoy Stubinz music. His face relaxed, and almost doubled as an expression of contentment; depending on the lighting. As soon as the music faded, Keiiji sat back up and leaned toward Stubinz. He reached over and clapped the top on the shoulder, his version of smiling...or of letting Stubby know he thoroughly enjoyed it. The contact didn't last long, before Keiiji was back in his chair, and the distance filling the space between them. "Stu. You know I liked it. But, you might get more queens if you serenade them with love ballads."

the battered old tom returned his young friends gesture with a soft smile. "Ah will try ta keep that in mind," he said with a wink. then he drew his bow across the strings once more "ahh perhaps this tis more tha ticket....
My wild Irish Rose The sweetest flower that grows You may search everywhere But none can compare with my wild Irish Rose
My wild Irish Rose The dearest flower that grows And some day for my sake She may let me take the bloom from my wild Irish Rose
My wild Irish Rose The sweetest flower that grows You may search everywhere But none can compare with my wild Irish Rose
My wild Irish Rose The dearest flower that grows And some day for my sake She may let me take the bloom from my wild Irish Rose
Yes, some day for my sake She may let me take the bloom from my wild Irish Rose"

Keiiji allowed his tail to sway in the subtle beat Stubby's music was providing. He did like the ballad. It was ...well lovely. And if Keiiji were Irish, he'd tease Stubby (with his serious face) that if he didn't know better, he'd swear that was a song about him. As soon as Stubinz was finished, Keiiji nodded his head. "Nice. Next time you're with a pretty queen you fancy, try serenading her. Could work." But he was an expert on relationships himself, so had only encouraged Stubby, but reiterated that it 'might' work.

the battered old winked at his young friend "Ah will keep that in mind," he said as he tucked the fiddle back behind the bar. slowly with many a tentative glance the first run of strays filtered in. these were the ones who were unsure of themselves, who were too used to being preyed upon to fully trust that Stubby really did not put hidden strings upon the comforts that he offered. Stubinz knew that Keiiji would likely disappear soon but he understood, he just hoped that he would be careful. with an unhurried pace Stubby layed out dish's of kibble, water and soft meat.

Keiiji flicked his eyes towards the entrance, just as the first stray tom stepped a paw into Stubby's establishment. His eyes glittered softly with a smile he would not allow himself to show. More strays filtered in and made a beeline to the dishes that Stubinz was putting out for them. He left his empty mug on the table, and stood up slowly. With his paw, he rose the sash that had been dangling around his neck and placed it back over his mouth. Effectively covering the scars on his cheek and lip. Almost like fading into the shadows, Keiiji gave one more look at the pub and those inside; his eyes looking over at Stubby, before he faded and slipped out of the Lark & Rose unseen.
**Wibbly-Wobbly Timey-Wimey...Stuff [Hope you don't mind, it's a tiny time skip, just so that Keiiji won't be indebted to Stubby later on.]**
A few hours had passed, and it was well into the night, when Keiiji found himself back on the street, just outside the Lark and Rose. Shifting the weight of the shoulder strap to his other shoulder, to balance the weight, he kept his footsteps light and soft. He stuck to the walls, his orange coloring practically blending with the walls of the pub, and his black stripes with the shadows within the pub, he was able to get up to Stubby's counter. None of the other strays would have noticed him anyways. Busy calling for Stubinz, or conversing with other strays. The others were so focused on making themselves invisible they weren't paying attention to those around them. Taking off the shoulder strap and about seven blankets that he had been carrying on his back. He placed them behind the counter for Stubby to find. A small piece of paper was left on top of the pile of blankets promising the rest of the blankets by the time the sun started to rise. With his work done, Keiiji once more slipped out of the pub, without a backwards glance.
[Exit Keiiji]

the battered old tom smiled when his rounds brought him back to where he found the blankets. he put them away just in time for the skittish crowd to give way to a more rolicking group of older cats like himself, it was too bad Gus was going to miss this one as the evening promised to be a good one for there was little Dolceneia who played the spoons like no one else and Fergus one of the few cats who could work a tin whistle! he brought out the fiddle and struck up a reel. "a good eve ta one and all!" (DRAW CURTAIN/EXIT STUBINZ) (he's dead Jim)
