the tall ginger tom glided out of a doorway like a shadow, his head tilting slightly when he saw who was in the hallway. a smile twitched his muzzle and was gone before they saw him this was near perfect. "ah very good just who I wanted to see," he said in a soft cultured voice. "Arnbjorn my fine fellow I want you to pass the word that our personnel are to stay clear of the Junk Yard area for ohhh...ten or twelve hours past sunset should do. you see I have it on the best authority that one of the Humans who run the Dog Fighting ring down by the docks that the alley cats so quaintly call the House Of Pain is going to...lose one of his fighting animals when he drops off a load of scrap, and it would be so tragic if someone was...hurt." he continued with a chilling smile that never quite reached his burning yellow eyes. then he looked down at the young queen, "so lovely, you are going to be useful to us in the fullness of time I think." he said in a fatherly tone.

Oswin continued to glare at Arnbjorn. She wasn't actually that angry, but there was no reason to let the tom know that. "A joke, eh? Well, it..." She trailed off as all at once the boss himself appeared beside them. That shut her up immediately, and she stood quietly while Macavity spoke to Arnbjorn.
Ossie might bother anyone else to death without a second thought; she might even laugh at Macavity when neither he nor anyone who would care was looking. But even she was not a big enough imbecile to try any of that to his face. No, when Macavity himself came around, she became...well, as serious and respectful as she ever was--which wasn't saying much, but she tried her best.
Listening to him speak with Arnbjorn now, she was contemplating slipping off unnoticed to find that fun and breakfast she had been thinking of earlier. But no such luck. When Macavity turned and spoke to her, she nodded vigorously. "Yes, boss, sir, I hope so, I do my best, sir," she said in one breath, with a nervous little chuckle at the end.

Arnbjorn straightened up the second he saw Macavity, his paws clasped at the small of his back once more. Great. He was suddenly painfully aware of how he smelled, and how messy and sweaty his mane must be. Hopefully, Macavity would not notice... or care. He listened to him carefully, his expression stony and attentive once more.
"Yes, sir," he said when his boss was finished. Easy enough. The challenge would be convincing them all to actually obey. Though if any were stupid enough not to, he couldn't say he'd be sad to see them hurt.
The smallest of smiles twitched at his lips as he watched Oswin squirm. The troublemakers of the Henches never seemed to be able to keep up the act around Macavity. The ginger tom had a way of inspiring obedience in the slimiest of cats.

the ginger tom gave a slow nod "Splendid! now I need to arrange for a rose or two for a Lady." he said running a slender finger along his muzzle. Macavity turned and glided toward his office. then the tall slender tom paused. "oh and Oswin I have two bits of advice, learn from Arnbjorn he has served me well and loyally. the second....always remember if you can not be loved be feared." then he looked back at the young queen with his smoldering unblinking eyes, "and don't give me reason to take you out behind the Wood Shed." he said before disappearing through a doorway. (EXIT Macavity stage left)

Oswin slowly relaxed as the leader walked away, though she remained tense in the shoulders for a good while after. She didn't often have encounters with Macavity himself, but usually received her orders second-paw from one of the higher-up Henchmen. On rare occasions such as this one, however, she was always reminded exactly why, no matter how much she might fuss or goof around, in the end she always followed orders. She shuddered at the mention of 'being taken out behind the Wood Shed.' She had never actually experienced this, but it didn't sound like anything good, and she had no intention of finding out.
"Well," she said somewhere in between a squeak and a giggle as she turned back to Arnbjorn, "looks like you..." She nearly made another comment about his stench and sweaty appearance, but then thought better of it. There was a limit to how much fun one should have with a cat so close to Macavity. "...Have your orders," she finished lamely.

Arnbjorn gave his boss another nod as he left. He wondered briefly who the roses would be for. Maybe the Lady Griddlebone. Though it was not his place to presume. He put it out of his mind and turned his attention back to Oswin, the shadow of a satisfied smirk on his face. He couldn't say that Macavity's compliment didn't please him, and it was always nice to see an unruly Hench get educated. He unclasped his paws to cross his arms over his grey and white chest.
"So." He cleared his throat. Time to see if Oswin would be coming away from this situation with any sort of change of attitude. "Any plans for today, then?"

Oswin pursed her lips in thought. "Hmmm..." Before she had bumped into Arnbjorn her day's agenda had mainly consisted of: finding breakfast; running off somewhere no one would notice; and playing and goofing around the rest of the day. But now perhaps she had better modify that slightly: no need to have anyone telling tales on her to Macavity.
"Breakfast, a walk to take the air, and then... Perhaps I shall go find some more cats to interrogate..." She thought of the tom who had seemed like he wished to be somewhere - anywhere - else. Maybe she could find him again. "No Jellicles today, though, I guess," she added. "Unless they're well away from that junkyard place."

Arnbjorn nodded approvingly. That was what he liked to hear. "I would offer to help, but you're a lot better at the interrogation side of this job than I am." Especially with the proper motivation that a chat with Macavity tended to bring. He paused to think for a moment. It wouldn't take him very long to spread the word about the Junkyard.
"Unless you need muscle," he offered.

Oswin grinned rather cheekily. She was already forgetting how nervous Macavity had made her, and was getting bored and ready to tease again. Still, in the back of her mind she knew she had to put a limit on it to keep from getting taken behind the Wood Shed.
"There you go, making fun of my size again," she said, purposely misunderstanding him. "Or...perhaps you were offering the services of your muscles?" She poked at his arm again, pretending to think long and hard about the idea.

Anbjorn rolled his eyes, his jaw set again. "Look, it's a yes or no question." He was sure she was only teasing, but he was running out of patience now that he had orders that needed fulfilling. Still, there was no need to snap. His voice softened. "Do you want any extra protection or not? I have things to do."

Oswin frowned. "Tsk, tsk, so impatient," she clucked. "Don'tcha know if you rush around too much, you'll make mistakes and not do things right?" She thought a moment. Should she ask him along or no? It could mean that she wouldn't be able to play as much, since he'd be watching and would report her to Macavity if she goofed off. However...it would also give her a chance to show off her skills, and that was a game in and of itself! Maybe she'd even meet that one tom again. "Extra protection might be nice. Yunno, in case that pollicle gets too out of control and ravages the streets as well as the junkyard. And maybe you can meet some of my interrogatees!" She giggled, proud of herself for inventing a new word.

"I don't make mistakes," Arnbjorn reminded her. And it was true, as far as he was concerned. He fulfilled his duties to a T, not willing to run the risk of disappointing Macavity. He listened to Oswin carefully. Smart girl. He didn't want any Henches getting hurt because of any neglect on his part. "Alright, then. I need to tell the others to stay away from the Junkyard first. Meet me at the Gate in an hour."
Not waiting for her response, he stepped around her and lumbered off down the hall. First, a quick grooming session. Then he could spread the word.

Hmph. So rude. "He has no manners to speak of. Does he, Pip?" Oswin muttered. She stuck out her tongue at Arnbjorn's retreating back, then headed towards the gate. They weren't meeting for an hour, but perhaps she could find some breakfast and play a game while she waited.
[Exit Oswin]
