the lovely brown queen led the harlequin tom through the stacks of junk, "I like to using it because it opens out on to a quiet street that is near where my humans live." Cassandra said to Alonzo. then she paused and asked softly "Alonzo why did you abandon me at the Ball? you gave me attention during the Mating dance and asked me to dance and then left....me. why?"

Alonzo followed Cassandra, his mind completely on the task at paw. Well, when he wasn't worrying about Munkustrap. He did hope the tom made it back all right and hadn't landed in any trouble... Then he scolded himself for being ridiculous. The silver tabby was certainly capable of looking out for himself! He was brought back to the moment by Cassandra's question. Startled, he stopped in his tracks. He had not been expecting such a question, and for a moment he was too shocked to speak. He abandoned her? He struggled to recall what she was speaking of. Why did he do such a thing to a queen...? From a faraway dream, memories from the Ball returned. It had been his first time seeing everyone together as a family, and himself having a share in that family. For the first time, he had truly felt at home. As the night went on, he let go many of his inhibitions and began simply to enjoy himself. He even began speaking with queens, dancing with them, could it be one of them might want to share a life with him? He could start all over again and...? Yes, and Cassandra had been a queen he danced with. What happened? All at once, a horrible stab of guilt. He had only ever loved one queen, and had got her killed. How could he dishonor her memory in this way? And how could he ever put another queen at risk? He would only hurt her, or cause her to be hurt, which was the same.
Yes. He had walked away from Cassandra. Not at all for the reasons she probably thought, but how could he ever explain? "Cassandra, I..." He stopped, not knowing how to go on.
((went kinda nuts and long there, sorry XD))

the lovely brown queens Mona Lisa smile never wavered, but then it so seldom did. with her tail arched just so Cassandra stood tall and proud, "it's alright Alonzo you are not the first tom to behave so and you at least had the reason of being carried away by the Ball, unlike some of the tom's that my well meaning Humans have tried to get me interested in!" she said in a velvety regal voice. then she tilted her head slightly her pale green eyes catching the moonlight and glowing, "I only ask because you were the first of the tribe toms, the only one, to ask me to dance. but do not feel trapped I have...other prospects. now you see that shadow in that junkstack over there? it is actually the opening to a thick pipe made of manstone (that's concrete!) that runs all the way under the stack and opens into a clear area under an awning I suppose where there are benches and tables at which the Humans who work the yard dine. once there another pipe runs through the fence to the outside. they are angled wrong so they almost never catch water so it make for a veery dry and private route." he continued smoothly. "let me show you," she said leading the way with a dainty gait.

Alonzo was racking his brains to figure out how on earth he was ever going to survive this conversation... When, just like that, as suddenly as she had introduced the subject, Cassandra dropped it and went back to what they were doing. Without even batting an eyelash. Oh, to have powers of conversation like that! It was staggering. Trying to clear his head, Alonzo focused on what she was saying about the secret entrance. He grew increasingly worried as she spoke: this sounded like just the perfect spot for an invasion. "Yes, please lead the way," he nodded, following in the direction she indicated.

one moment the lovely brown queen was there and then she was....gone till her eyes shone reflecting out of the shadows. what had appeared to be a shallow dip in the junkstack did indeed turn out to be the opening of a tunnel like pipe. "fortunately it is not as convenient to the hench territories as it is my home." Cassandra said softly, "and you want to be careful the humans on that street are prone to reporting animals that they do not know to Animal Control." she added.

Alonzo gave a short gasp as Cassandra seemed to suddenly disappear. After a moment, he realized she had gone into the pipe. He peered in, marveling at how well hidden this tunnel was. "If only Animal Control would pick up some of the henches," he joked weakly. Then, in a more serious tone, "Cassandra, do you come through here often? Have you ever noticed any suspicious characters lurking near?--Apart from humans?"

the lovely brown queen tipped her head to one side and thought. "yes most of the time when I come to the Yard, it is easier than going all tho blocks around and more dignified than scrabbling over the fence. and no I have not seen any strangers that I recall." she said in a velvety voice as they approached the far end of the pipe. from the opening they could see the humans break area and, now that he knew what to look for the opening to the other pipe. "the few times that the Hum have been at their table they have treated me nice," Cassandra mentioned, " if you post someone to wa from within this pipe they should not be seen."

Alonzo nodded as he listened to her explanation. Already his mind was thinking along those lines - of posting one of the toms here to guard the entrance. Well, no doubt they could all keep an eye on it - take it in shifts or something. He really needed to discuss this with Munkustrap... Suppressing his anxiety as best he could, he smiled towards Cassandra. "Thank you, Cassandra, this has been very helpful. We'll all be that much safer now that we know to look out for the entrance. Let's hope the henches don't know about it."
((dodd, do you mind if I bring Oswin in here? Trying to finally get her working on her "assignment" to skulk around the Jellicles XD))

((go right ahead!)) Cassandra politely dipped her head, "it is the least that I could do," she said with a soft purr. "I am sure that you and the others ill put the knowledge to d use," she added with a small smile. then she began to room her sleek short fur.

Feeling somewhat awkward and uncertain what to do now until Munkustrap returned, Alonzo turned around to inspect the tunnel more closely. As he peered in, he thought he detected a slight movement. "Who's there?" he called out, somewhat sternly. Then he reflected that it could just be a Jellicle. But after all that had gone on today, and now this 'secret' entrance, how could one tell?
Oswin froze in her tracks, her self-congratulatory smile fading. She'd thought she discovered a secret tunnel into the Jellicles' territory, but clearly they knew about it. And she'd been spotted. Drat. Now what? Without stopping to think too long, she entered her default mode of "adorable little kitten" and ran the rest of the way through the tunnel into the 'yard, running right into Alonzo. "Ooof!" she exclaimed, as if she hadn't known he was there. She looked up, taking in the big tom in front of her, as well as the smaller, graceful-looking queen nearby. Hm. Neither of them was Quaxo/Mistoffelees, but no doubt they had valuable information of some kind. Besides, to do what she needed to do, she'd probably have to stay here a while. "You're not mice," she said to the two cats, her lip jutting out in a pout. "I thought I heard mice. Where am I?"

Cassandra looked down at the kitten with a prim smile, "noooo neither of us are mice, she saidas she cocked a delicately rounded ear. "and who might you be?" asked, her long slender tail curling just so she watched the kitten with luminescent pale green eyes.

Alonzo's pelt prickled, and he didn't trust himself to speak just yet. His first impulse was to pick up the kit and toss her out of the 'yard, certain she must be some sort of Hench spy. But he forced himself to calm down, and remind himself that she was, in fact, just a kit. He should listen to what she had to say before passing any sort of judgment. ... Besides, why would the henches send an imbecile like this?
Oswin sniffled. "I'm Winnie, and I'm hungry." She looked from Alonzo to Cassandra with big, sad eyes. "Do you have some food?"

the lovely brown queen led the kitten back out to the Humans break area. while she did not forage in the trash herself Cara thought that here might be at least something edible. " us see what we can find Little One," she said in a friendly tone, "and then you can tell us how you came to find this place hmmmm?"

Alonzo followed the two queens - partly for protection, and partly because he definitely needed to hear what "Winnie" (if that was really her name) had to say. He hated being so suspicious, and was grateful to Cassandra for how she was handling the situation. But they needed to be careful. The "little one" thing could just be an act.
On the other hand, there was no harm in feeding a hungry kitten - and who knew but what even if she did turn out to be a Hench spy, perhaps they could persuade her otherwise. Alonzo began digging through piles of cast-offs from the humans' lunches. He came up with half a roast beef sandwich, which he handed to the kit. "Here's something for a start."
Oswin snatched the sandwich eagerly - she really was hungry - and began devouring it. Between bites, she explained, mostly looking at Cassandra who had been the more friendly one, "I was looking for my Mummy. She said she was going to find food and would be right back, but that was a long time ago. I haven't found her yet and I got hungry and now I don't know how to get back home and I don't know where my Mummy is." She sniffled.

the lovely brown queen's heart twinged at the kittens hunger, she paused and e Alonzo a wink so fast that it might not have been there then she turned to the Winne, her slender tail arched just so her cupped ears forward "well would you like to spend the night with Me at my humans home?" she asked gently. "it would be ever so nicer than this dirty old junkyard."
