Alonzo could scarcely believe what he was hearing! Cassandra's idea was genius. If this kit did turn out to be a spy, well, she wouldn't learn much about the junkyard by staying at Cassandra's house, would she? Either way, she'd be looked after. "What a splendid idea," he said to Cassandra, before turning to Oswin. "Would you like that, Winnie?"
Oswin's eyes widened. "Humans? I'm scared of humans! Whenever I try to talk to them they kick me or throw shoes or hit me with a broomstick!" It wasn't far from the truth, except for the part about being scared of them. She didn't care what humans did as long as she got away with whatever scrap of food she was after. But... If she went to this queen's house, she'd be farther away from the 'yard than ever. On the other paw, what better way to learn about Jellicles than spend a lot of time with one, never mind where?

the lovely brown queen smiled at Oswin and said sweetly "I am sure that MY Humans will not treat you so!"
then Cassandra turned and looked at Alonzo demurely, "would you escort us?" she asked in a soft voice.

Alonzo nodded. "Of course," he agreed, then hesitated. "That is, as soon as..." He was about to say, 'as soon as Munkustrap gets here,' but he was nervous about saying too much in front of Winnie, lest she should grow too inquisitive as kittens often were. He tried to convey his meaning to Cassandra with a hinting look.
Having felt somewhat at a loss as to how to help the others, Alyssa had wandered around just looking out for the silver-and-black pelt that she knew belonged to Munkustrap; his appearance was easy to remember, even if she still hadn't quite figured out everyone else's in the yard. Seeing him talking to Mungojerrie, she'd run off to inform Alonzo and Cassandra. "Hey, Munk-dude is back!" she yelled, running up to them. She skidded to a stop just shy of slamming into Oswin. "Oh hey!" she added, looking at the kitten. "Who're you? Well, sorry I we already met; I still am getting the hang of this. Anyway, Cassandra, Lonz-dude, Munk-dude is here, want to go tell him about the thing?"
Oswin brightened slightly. Maybe she wouldn't be rushed off to Cassandra's home so quickly after all. "I'm Winnie," she said, in a timid little squeak. "I'm s'posed to go to Miss Cassie's house."
Alonzo groaned inwardly as Alyssa rushed in and blurted things out before he could stop her. Well, they'd simply have to make the best of it. "Cassandra," he said, "if the three of you could wait here a few moments, I'll be back as soon as possible to escort you. I really should speak to Munk about the 'thing' first." At least Aly hadn't mentioned the entrance...not that it mattered, since Oswin had come in that way anyway.
((if you don't want Aly to come in, dodd, let me know and I'll change it. Just wanted to let Lonzo know that Munk is back... And cause more chaos of course. ^^))

the lovely brown queen gave Aly a smile, "that would be just fine Alyssa." then looked at the harlequin tome demurely askd "and by all means tell Munkustap Alonzo."
Cassandra arched her back and stretched, "I think that this sort of visit is long overdue, and I welcome
the chance to show you my home!"

Alonzo nodded. "I will be back in a few moments." He turned to go, then added as an afterthought, "If you notice anything...unusual coming towards the 'yard, come and fetch Munkustrap or myself. Please don't try to take care of it yourself." He stared hard at all of them to show he was serious, while giving Cassandra a meaningful look. It wasn't her he was concerned about - she had sense enough to not do anything foolish. But Aly was a bit crazy and unpredictable, and the kit, well... he didn't know. He just hoped Cass could keep the younger queens still and out of trouble long enough for him to talk to Munk and then return. "Be right back." He went in the direction Aly had pointed.
((exit Alonzo temporarily))
Oswin looked quizzically at Cassandra and Alyssa. "Unusual? What was that all about? Is there scary stuff going on around here?" She looked around nervously, as if expecting a monster to jump out.
"Oh, there was a Pollicle here the other day," Alyssa shrugged. "And of course Lonz and Munk are always worried about stuff like that and henches and Macavity, blah blah. Isn't that about right, Cassie?"

the brown queen sat down and licked her paw and gave one of her delicately cupped ears a deliberate rub while her long tail wrapped around her just so. "yes they are concerned for the safety of the Yard and all of us. there indeed was an incident with a Policle, and after what happened at the Ball...well they are being cautious." Casandra said in a smooth calm tone.

Oswin's ears perked up. "Ball? You mean like a party? Can I come?"
Alyssa giggled. This kit was so cute. There was no way she could be a hench. "Sorry, 'fraid you just missed it. We only have it once a year. But maybe, if you're very, very good, you can come next year!" She grinned at Cassandra, wondering if she was as entertained by all this as Alyssa.
Oswin clapped her paws. "Oh, yes! But...but what do you mean about what happened? Something bad?" she asked Cassandra.

the lovely brown queen became still, her face serene a porcelain mask.
"oh yes it could have been very bad. Macvity The Mystery Cat kidnapped our Leader posed as him and when he was exposed as a fraud there was a fight." she said in a hushed eerie tone.
"but our Leader returned to us unharmed by one of our protectors."
Cassandra gave a small Mona Lisa smile, "but that is behind us now and we have the next Jellicle Moon to look forward to!"

Oswin listened intently to Cassandra speak of Macavity and his doings at the Ball. She knew all of this, of course - everyone in the warehouse did - but it was interesting to hear the story from the Jellicles' perspective. She giggled slightly. "Macavity the Mystery Cat? Isn't he just a ghostly legend, or a silly bedtime story? I'm too big to believe in ghost stories," she declared proudly, chin held high.
Alyssa looked at the kit in astonishment. Somecats thought Macavity wasn't real? She couldn't imagine! "Why, Winnie," she exclaimed, "Macavity's very real, a real cat just like anyone! Didn't you know that?"
Oswin smirked. This was such fun. "Have you ever seen him?" she challenged.
"Well...no," Aly admitted, "but that's 'cause I haven't been here long and Macci-dude is super sneaky. But Cassandra's seen him. Right? You know he's real," she appealed to the older queen.

the lovely brown queen gave Oswin a level stare, her pale green eyes flat her figure completely still as she replied in that eerie hushed voice, "ohh yes I saw him.
I saw when he was revealed, I saw when he fought Munkustrap and Alonzo...and I saw when he fled with his tail between his legs in the flash of sparks from a pair of jumper cab hooked to a battery." slowly she nodded, "he is quite real and his ego...his overweening Pride will be his undoing mark my words."

Oswin clapped her paws and laughed out loud as Cassandra described Macavity's exit. And she wasn't even pretending: her fear of Macavity only cropped up when she was actually in his presence, or doing something she knew would get her in trouble with him. Here, she felt secure enough to laugh at his expense without being caught. This version of the story was much funnier than the Henches' version. "Guess he's not some magic, invincible ghosty-person," she giggled.
Alyssa couldn't help laughing too, even though she'd heard the story before. It was fun to see someone totally new hear it for the first time. "Our protectors beat the snot outta Macci-dude," she declared proudly. "Wish I could've seen it." She looked at Cassandra as a random thought occurred to her. "Say, do you think he was okay after that crazy electrocution trick? Maybe he crawled off and died somewhere and our problems are over!"

the brown queen shook her head slowly "we have been no where near that fortunate I am afraid."
Cassandra said softly, then she smiled at Alyssa and Oswin.
"but the Tribe will weather whatever mischief he has in mind, of that I am sure!"
the lovely brown queen looked about to see if Alonzo was returning, as all this talk of Macavity
as...unsettling.
